Stokes Croft History Walk – Location 2: Mickleburghs

Mickleburghs

The Mickleburgh family began in the piano maintenance business  in the 1870s, and the piano shop was first opened in Stokes Croft in 1903.  In the Bristol Blitz of 1942 it was destroyed. The building that stands today opened in 1957.

Dissenting Charity Almshouses and School

Opposite Mickleburghs there was the Dissenting Charity Almshouses and School, built in 1772 next to the existing almshouse. Both were destroyed in the Blitz. The site is now a row of modern shops and printers.
