Mickleburghs
The Mickleburgh family began in the piano maintenance business in the 1870s, and the piano shop was first opened in Stokes Croft in 1903. In the Bristol Blitz of 1942 it was destroyed. The building that stands today opened in 1957.

During the Blitz, after the shop was destroyed, Mickleburgh offered their remaining piano stock as firewood during the freezing winter

Dissenting Charity Almshouses and School
Opposite Mickleburghs there was the Dissenting Charity Almshouses and School, built in 1772 next to the existing almshouse. Both were destroyed in the Blitz. The site is now a row of modern shops and printers.
